EC tightens security for peaceful poll

Election Commission has taken unprecedented security measures in RK Nagar to ensure fair and free poll and that no untoward incident will happen during the election.
EC has tightened the screws on the by-election to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, scheduled for April 12,
District Election Officer and Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan said, “Election Commission has deployed 70 mobile teams of micro observers in bypoll-bound RK Nagar assembly constituency here amid complaints of alleged distribution of money to voters.
Each team comprising one Election Commission-appointed observer and a police personnel will go around their assigned areas on motorcycles. Motorcycles will be very useful since they could easily travel in the congested lanes and bylanes of RK Nagar here, which goes to a byelection on April 12, he said.
EC has appointed 30 flying squads in RK Nagar. CCTV cameras installed in all the booths. The EC webcast voting in all the booths. Additionally 50 CCTV cameras installed in near polling booths.The EC will take the help of Social media also.Vehicles carrying persons belong to outside RK Nagar will be seized. Karthikeyan said.In the event of any suspicious activity the teams will tip off the flying squads who will arrive with security personnel to inspect and take appropriate action, the DEO said.
