Sivakasi, Nov 13:

Due to the closure more than eight lakhs of employees directly employed in various industries of crackers manufacturing units and more than one crore of people indirectly employed will loose their livelihood.
The decision to close down all the manufacturing units in Sivakasi was taken up after the manufacturers had jointly organised a seminar and discussed about the strict rules of the Supreme Court. The meeting was held at the Tamil Nadu Fireworks & Amorces Manufactuers Association’s office headed by its president Asai Thambi, General Secretary Mariyappan, Treasurer Chakratis, TIPPA Association President Radhakrishnan, Secretary Rajendra Raja, and Crackers Merchants Federation’s General Secretary Ilango.
The members in the meeting had expressed that while the Supreme Court had allowed them to go ahead with the manufacture of crackers, had laid down certain conditions, which were impracticable to carry out the production. Several members in the meeting unanimously said that it would be impossible to manufacture crackers without the Barium Nitrate chemical.
Then the members at the meeting had decided to write their inability to manufacture crackers as per the norms stipulated by the Supreme Court in its recent judgement to the Tamil Nadu Government as well to the Labour Welfare Department.
