Rameswaram, Sept 13:

Around 20 fishermen, including Satish, Raju, Balamurugan and Munees Babu who ventured into sea to catch fish were attacked by the Indian Coastal Guards with lethal weapons.

The Guards who were on patrol duty attacked the fishermen who were catching within the Indian sea-territory were attacked, complained the fishermen who returned home after sustained injuries.

The fishermen said when they asked the reason for the attack, the Coast Guard had kept quiet and without answering to them they had moved out of the place.

The boats of the fishermen were destroyed by the Coastal Guards which required a minimum of Rs 50,000 for the repair of each boat.

The fishermen also deplored that this was the first time that the Indian Coastal Guards’ attack on Indian fishermen who were within the sea-territory of India.
