June 26 marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicity Trafficking. And, among the celebrities to raise their voices against drug abuse include prominent musician AR Rahman.
The Academy Award-winning musician put out a powerful video on Friday, about the ill effects of the drug menace. “Today is the day to voice against drug abuse and its illicit trafficking. In the present scenario, awareness is the need of the hour. We can come out of the present COVID-19 pandemic one day. But it is very difficult to come out of drug addiction,” he says in the video.
The musician adds that the effects of drug addiction is frightening. “It leads to evil thoughts and the resultant bad habits have ruined the lives of many people. Evil deeds such as committing heinous crimes and the child abuse are some of the effects of drug addiction. Hence, let us take the pledge to abstain from the use of drugs and save the younger generation from the clutches of the drug menace,” he concludes, urging people to say no to drugs.
