Bengaluru ITI makes eco-friendly 3D face shield

As part of Central government’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan initiative to fight COVID-19 spread, the country’s first public sector undertaking– Bengaluru based ITI Ltd under Union Ministry of Communication, has come out with eco-friendly 3D face shield made from crystal clear Poly Ethylene Transparent (PET) sheets of 175 microns with maximum visibility which is scratch and fog proof. Moreover, it could withstand temperature upto 70 degrees.
According to ITI Ltd chairman and managing director Rakesh Mohan Agarwal, the unique 3D face shield offers complete protection to face, eyes, nose and mouth from sprays and droplets. And the indigenous product provides hassle free respiration and is convenient to use. Yet another redeeming feature is that the face shield is customized as per user requirements and suitable for a wide range of applications and the frame is designed to ‘Fit for All’. This initiative by the PSU is to help the corona warriors in their fight against the deadly virus.It is pertinent to point out that ITI Ltd initially manufactured 5 lakh face shields a month and slowly increased to meet the demand. In the first phase, the company provided face shields to various healthcare setups, educational institutions, NGOs and local administrations on a complimentary basis while in the second phase, it was given to airports, municipal corporations, police departments, state governments and corporates.
Notably, the eco-friendly non-toxic, reusable face shields can be recycled. Keeping in view of the swift spread of coronavirus that is posing a serious threat to the lives of the people, the electronic manufacturing major is to manufacture around 15 lakh face shields per month. Meanwhile, ITI is in the process of making portable ventilators designed on a Transfer of Technology (ToT) basis with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
