Call to withdraw property tax hike

Tiruchy, Aug 5:
The Administrative Committee of the Association of Former Central Committee members of the State Bank Staff Union (SBSU) which met at its here, recently, in a resolution has requested the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw its Government Order on the proposed hike in ‘Property Tax’ immediately.
The meeting in the resolution has said that the state government can get directly Rs 3558 crore from the Central Government, for the development of the Corporations, Municipalities and other Local Bodies instead of rising the property tax. The resolution also had opined that increase in the property tax means, more burden on the shoulders of the people of Tamil Nadu. Hence, the resolution sought the immediate withdrawal of the GO. It had also brought the attention of the government that the Tamil Nadu Government could get the required funds as per the recommendations of the 14th Finance Committee.
In an yet another resolution passed at the meeting, the AFCCoM had made an appeal to the Tamil Nadu Government to extend the issuing of bus passes to the senior citizens living in other districts. The meeting had recalled that the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had introduced the free bus passes to senior citizens in Chennai.
The meeting in the resolution has said that under the Indian Constitution 21 (6) steps should be taken to issue bus passes to senior citizens living in all the districts of the state.
Another resolution which was passed at the meeting has made an appeal to the government to provide concessional take rates for the senior citizens to travel far off places, as has been in vogue in Utharkant State and Andhra Pradesh. which provide 25 % concession in ticket rates.
The meeting had underlined the National Policy For Senior Citizens 2011 Act which pave way for senior citizens to avail various benefits who are economically backward and also in physical set back. The resolution sought at least 25 % concession in ticket rates for them to travel in very far off places.
AFCCoM President S.B.Raman presided over the meeting which was held in the presence of the General Secretary V.R.Udhaya Sankar. Senior Administrative Officer N.Subramanian welcomed the gatherings.
AFCCoM’s Tirunelveli Treasurer S.Kannan, Assistant Treasurer Tuticorin Durairaj, VP T.V.Chandrasekaran, Tiruchi N.Subramaniam, Madurai M.Murugaiyah, Visionary M.Chandra Gilbert, Tiruvarur N.Pandurengan, Polur K.P.Sarathy, Adayar Babu, Chennai M.R.Varadarajan, Coimbatore K.Palanisamy and various others participated.
