Minister O.Paneerselvam and a team of high officials of the TN government who today reached Nagapattinam Railway station, met farmers and general public who had become targets of the Gaja-cyclone, consoled them and promised them that all would be compensated for the loss that they had suffered.
Due to the cyclone, the districts of Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Tiruchy were worst-hit and most of the farmers of the district had suffered a total loss of their crops.
Some coconut groove farmers who were solely depending upon the income from their coconut grooves, hereafter, have to see other source of income for their livelihood, as several trees were uprooted in the whirlwind.
Palaniswami and the other government officials, when got down from the train at the Nagapattinam Railway station, several people who on coming to know the arrival of the Chief Minister were eagerly waiting outside the railway station to express their grievances caused by the Gaja.
The Chief Minister who had already studied the heavy cyclone-loss and the Himalayan difficulties faced by the people in several districts due to the cyclone, on November 20th visited Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts with the Deputy Chief Minister O.Paneerselvam and conducted aerial inspection of several flood-hit areas from an helicopter.
Both of them had planned to visit Nagapattinam on the same day, but had to abandon due to the worst weather condition.
The Chief Minister who first visited the Nagapattinam Municipality Office, distributed government relief materials and also financial aids aids to those who were affected in the cyclone.
According to some government officials who were present at the distribution of relief materials said that it was the commencement of the first-phase of the relief materials.
Keeping in view of the changing weather conditions, the Chief Minister rushed to Nagapattinam from Chennai through Karaikal Express on Tuesday evening.
The Chief Minister who has round-the-clock schedules will be visiting the entire Nagapattinam district along with Dy Chief Minister O.Paneerselvam, to make inspection at the rehabilitation work carried out in the district, an officials from the government said.
Similarly, both will be visiting Tiruvarur district today, to conduct inspection of the rehabilitation work, an official said.
