Though the Karnataka and Kerala states are in the forefront in coconut harvests, the Tamil Nadu State has been in the lead in the fertility, addressed the Theni MP O.P.Raveendranath Kumar, at the Cocount Day celebration organised by the Coconut Development Board.
The MP who was the Chief-at the function said that India had been getting a total national income of Rs 7000 crores every year and Rs 500 crores as foreign-exchange, through marketing of coconuts and its bye-products.
The MP said that he had requested the Union Agriculture Ministry to establish Mango Processing Centre in Theni, Raveendranath Kumar added that he would take steps with the Agriculture Ministry to establish a coconut processing centre. The MP also promised that he would take steps to install an incubation centre in Theni.
The MP reminded that the Tamil Nadu Government had introduced Neerabanam from cocounut for the benefit of the growers. He said that the government under Chief Minister Edapadi K.Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O.Paneerselvam would bring more welfare plans for agriculture and farmers.
Chennai Coconut Development Board Director Bala Sudhakari welcomed the gatherings at the function. Periyakulam Horticulture College and Research Centre Principal Arumugam made special address at the function.
