April 24, Chennai:
Pune based CruiseBay, India’s first and only cruise based holiday company offering cruises all over the world, has come to Chennai. CruiseBay offers 1,500 cruises from 35 cruise liners to over 100 destinations across the world to satisfy the wanderlust within you.
For the past 10 years, Cruise Bay has been offering Indians cruise holidays from 35 cruise companies to destinations all over the world including Singapore, Hong Kong, Europe, Scandinavia, Caribbean and Alaska. Now, they have partnered with Adyar Travel Bureau, a trusted travel management group and are set to start operations in Chennai. Going forward the cruise industry is poised for explosive growth.
Most of the cruises taken by Indians last year were from Singapore and the most travelled to cruise destination being the Caribbean Islands. Nikhil Thakurdas, director of CruiseBay pointed out how less than 1% of Indians took cruises in 2018 but the growth of the cruise market is at 15%. The centre has woken up to the potential of cruise tourism, and have opened up inland waterways in West Bengal for river cruises.
Two major reasons Indians do not opt for a cruise are
“Cruises are expensive” A cruise trip will cost 9 – 10k per night for 1person, which includes accommodation, food and ocean transportation. Most cruise tours allow families to take 2 children below 18 years of age for free in the same cabin.
“I wil fall seasick”. Cruises are a floating city, on board tourists can do anything from gazing across the ocean to skating around the ship. Though most people believe they will get sea sick during to the movement, he says, “There might be a few exceptions, but the vessel is 70,000tonnes or more, and feeling the movement is highly unlikely”
Nikhil and Peter Jesudas , Director of Adyar Travel bureau share the same vision, ‘to break the stigma and misconceptions Indians have about cruises’. To ensure people can get all their queries cleared about cruise travel, to take a look at what a cruise can offer and to experience being inside a cruise, a cruise bay lounge has been introduced at the Adyar Travel bureau office.
The idea of going on a cruise is to see new destinations without the hassle of packing and unpacking multiple destinations, spend time with family, enjoy the cool breeze and make new friends.
