Leaving his iconic roles of ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ far behind, Robert Downey Jr is set to step into the shoes of the much-loved veterinarian – Doctor Dolittle.
Deviating from the Eddie Murphy film, this one will take the audience back in time to the 1920s. The story follows the eccentric Dr John Dolittle, who hermits himself behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley, Wild Rose) falls gravely ill, the reluctant Doctor is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.
While Robert plays the titular role, he will be joined by a strong supporting cast including John Cena, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Kumail Nanjiani, Craig Robinson, Ralph Fiennes, Marion Cotillard, Frances De La Tour, Carmen Ejogo and Oscar winners Rami Malek, Emma Thompson and Octavia Spencer, who will lend their voices to the animals in the film.
Directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan, the film is set to hit theatres on January 17.
