The third round between India’s Dronevelli Harika and the former world champion Alexandra Koseniiuk ended in a draw in just 29 moves in the Tarrasch variation of French defense.
In the Tarrasch game of French defense both players were involved in the early exchanging of pieces to settle for a short draw. With both the players locking their horns a tie break match will determine who will now move on to the quarter finals.
However Ju Wenjun (China) and Maria Muzychuk (Russia) outwitted their respective opponents to reserve a berth in FIDE Women Women Championship 2018 now in progress in Khanty Manisyk. Russia.
For the remaining six slot 12 players have to fight out to qualify for the Quarter finals. It may be recalled India’s No.1 women player GM Koneru Humpy bowed down to her Russian opponent in the the second round knock out match.
For Harika sailing through tie break matches is not a big issue. She has already outcalsessed her opponents Khukhashvili and Khotenashvilli in the first and second round tactfully through tie break match. Therefore a wild goose chase is on the anvil for the Indian to try her might in the ongoing FIDE Women World chesss championship now half way through.
