Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that people in The Nilgiris, who lost their huts completely in the recent torrential rain will get Green Houses.

“Nearly 1,225 huts were partly damaged and 296 huts were completely damaged. People who have their huts partly damaged will receive Rs 4,100 and people who had lost their huts completely will receive Rs 5,000 immediately. People who have lost their houses completely will get a Green House constructed by the state government,” said the Chief Minister in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister held a review meeting with Ministers and top bureaucrats about the situation in The Nilgiris. The officials briefed Chief Minister about the number of people admitted in the relief camps and the facilities available.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to ensure that the basic amenities are provided to the people in the camps and to check the spread the diseases in the area. The Chief Minister directed the officials to spray anti-infectants and to add chlorine in water.

He also said that as on Wednesday, 6,910 persons were made to stay in 67 relief camps in The Nilgiris and all the inmates are provided with food. Mothers are given milk powders for their children and elders are taken care of their medical needs.

About 23 medical camps have been setup in the relief camps and 13 mobile medical camps are functioning in which 9,333 people have benefitted so far. So far six persons have died and their families were given Rs 10 lakh each, he added.

Ordering immediate disbursal of relief for the victims, Palaniswami said 11 persons were injured and two cattle died.

The Chief Minister has also directed the officials to take count of the horticulture plants damaged in the flood and to complete the process by August 16 to ensure that compensation reaches the farmers on time.

Of the 153.34 kms of road which have been damaged and all the damaged 185 small bridges would be repaired soon, said Chief Minister Palaniswami.
