Chennai, Dec 3:
The 16th edition of the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) organised by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) will be held from December 13 to 20 in the city.
Speaking about the festival, Sivan Kannan, president of the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) said that the the best films from festivals across the world had been curated and would be screened as a part of the CIFF.
E. Thangaraj, General Secretary, “The Tamil Nadu government has always supported the festival and this year as well, we look forward to extending our association with them.”
The inauguration of the Chennai International Film Festival will be held at Kalaivanar Arangam on December 13. The closing ceremony will be held on the same venue on Decmber 20. Organised by the ICAF,150 films from 59 countries will be screened at Devi cineplex, Anna Theatre, Casino theatre, Tagore film centre and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture.
Diplomats from various Foreign Missions at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai will participate in the film festival.
Japanese film Shoplifters, will be screened on December 13 as the opening film.The festival will, this year, have a retrospective of Faith Akin, a German filmmaker, where six of his films will be screened, courtesy of the Goethe Institut, Chennai.
Twelve films will be screened under the Indian Panorama Category and a special screening of the film Merku Thodarchi Malai will also be a part of the festival.The country focus this year will be on Brazil, with four films scheduled to be screened from the country.
Director Gayathri released the list of 12 films that would be screened as part of Tamil feature films under the competition category.
These include Pariyerum Perumal, 96, Ratsasan, Velaikaran, Irumbu Thirai and Iravukku Aayiram Kangal.Films from GRULAC
Shylaja Chetlur, an advisory committee member of the ICAF said, “For the first time this year, a film from Zambia as well as 13 films from the GRULAC (Group of Latin American and Caribbean countries) will be screened. A film from Ladakh will also be screened under the Indian Panorama Category.”Some of the delegates who are expected to participate are ResulPookutty (Film Sound Designer), Shilpa (Director from Singapore), Abu ShahedEmon (Director from Bangladesh),
