Indian wrestlers win 7 medals at Asian U-15 Girls Championships

New Delhi, Nov. 18:
The Indian wrestlers made their trip to Fujimi, Japan, worth a while winning 7 medals; three gold medals, including the one by World Cadet bronze medal winner Sweety in 43 kg, three silver and one bronze at the Asian Under-15 Girls Championships.
Incidentally, hosts Japan were the most profitable among the eight countries that participated in the inaugural event under the aegis of the United World Wrestling, winning six gold medals from out of 10 weight categories.
In teams’ final standing, India finished second with 181 points, behind Japan (202) and Kazakhstan at the third place (125). Mongolia (114) and Uzbekistan (105) followed them in that order.
In the final of the 42 kg, the Indian defeated the Japanese rival, Miwa Magara 4-4, the last point she managed clinching the gold in her favour.
India’s other gold medals came in 33kg category as Pooja Rani defeat Anna Nazarenko of Kazakhstan by technical fall 11-0.
But it was Komal, who was out and down before rallying from a 0-6 deficit to win 6-6 against another Japanese, Fuka Kondo in 36kg—the last point going in favour of the Indian being the clincher yet again.
As the tournament, the first for the continent in this age category drew entries from just eight countries—China was noticeably missing—all of the weight classes, featuring round-robin groups. In divisions with six or more, there were two groups to determine semifinals spots, concluding with a gold-medal match.

39kg: Final: Miu Obata (JPN) bt Pinki (IND) 4-0; 46kg: Final: Yu Sakamoto (JPN) bt Antim (IND) 10-2;
54 kg: 3rd place: Pratibha Janghu (IND) lost to Altjin Togtokh (MGL) 1-2; 58kg: Final: Kanami Yamanouchi (JPN) bt Bhagyashree Fand (IND) 5-0.
