Singapore, without any doubt, is one of the favorite tourist destinations for Indians. The Singapore Tourism Board announced that for the fourth time in a row, Singapore welcomed more than one million Indian travelers in 2018, reinforcing it as one of the most preferred destinations for Indian outbound travel.
The board also announced that India retained its third position, after China and Indonesia, as a visitors arrival source market for Singapore, having first gaining that spot in 2017. It recorded the second highest growth at 13%, after USA(14%).
Not only this, Indians also top the charts as Singapore’s top cruise travel source market. It received 160000 cruise enthusiasts from India in 2018, a 27% year on year increase. Up till the 3rd quarter 2018, Singapore welcome 2 million BTMICE global visitors. Apart from this, Singapore continued to draw a high number of M&I travel groups including prominent corporates like Amway India and Voltas.
To further strengthen relations and tourism opportunities with India, Singapore took to various initiatives, a music promotional association with Maestro Ilaiyaraaja which included a concert and video about the song ‘ Akkarai cheemai azhaginile’ featuring Singapore, and a music video with Vh1 featuring Raja Kumari. Mainly promoted the destination brand “Passion Made Possible” and presented the country’s various offerings to audiences across India.
While Tier1 metro cities in India contribute the highest number of visitors to Singapore, STB’s efforts to engage Tier2 cities, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, resulted in them providing increased visitorship; 2,53,000 travelers in 2018, a YOY growth of 12%.
During STB’s first trade engagement programme in South India for 2019, Regional director SAMEA (South Asia, Middle east and Africa) STB, GB Srithar said, ” With Singapore’s diverse sightseeing and attraction offerings, array of exciting events and year roud festivals, and celebrations catering to differernt passion points of travelers, we look forward to welcoming more visitors from India to experience Singapore in 2019.”
