Chief Minister Edapadi K.Palansiwami and Deputy Chief Minister O.Pannerselvam today extended their greetings for Pongal for Tamils all over.The Chief Minister wished that Pongal ushers in all-round happiness and prosperity for all.
Palaniswami pointed that on this happy occasion people will decorate their courtyard with kolam of various hues, buy sugarcane, freshly grown turmeric stems with leaves as well as ginger stems besides flowers and fruits. People will decorate new pots with flowers, sugarcane leaves and turmeric and ginger leaves around its neck .The milk and raw rice from the newly harvested paddy is placed in side the pot and place it on fire. When the boiled milk and rice surges out of the pot it was heralded by the joyful family members in cheerful voice ‘Pongalo Pongal’. To add to their joy the State government on its part gave Pongal package and cash gift of Rs.1000 to the ration card-holders, the Chief Minister said.
As farmers were the backbone of the society and cause for the happiness of all, government had taken a galore of steps to support them with subsidies, loan waivers, free soil testing, provision of adequate farm inputs, storage godowns, e marketing for them to get fair price for harvested produce, announcements of minimum support price etc.
Latest facility made availabel to farmers was mobile app to provide latest info on farm related issues, desilting of lakes and permitting farmers to freely take the desilted rich alluvial soil from lakes to their fields, the Chief Minister added.
O.Pannerselvam has conveyed is heartfelt Pongal wishes to all and recalled the galore of schemes launched by Jayalalithaa and MGR for the farming community who enrich the society with food and happiness by toiling in the fields day in and day out. Following the footsteps of Jayalalithaa and MGR ‘we are also launching more and more welfare schemes for farmers’, he added.
