Man catches Dinosaur fish

A fisherman was in for a great shock after he caught a bizarre-looking fish with its eyes bulging out while fishing off the coast of Norway. Oscar Lundahl, 19, works as a guide for the fishing company Nordic Sea Angling and said that he was fishing for a blue halibut but ended up catching “a bit dinosaur-like” fish.

“We were looking for blue halibut which is a rare species about five miles off shore. I had four hooks on one line and felt something quite big on the end of it. It took me about 30 minutes to reel it in because it was 800 metres deep. There were two halibut on two of the hooks and I was really happy about that and then I saw there was something else,” Oscar Lundahl said.

The image of the fish has gone viral on social media and is being widely circulated across the internet. Netizens, in fact, found it difficult to believe their eyes.

What Oscar Lundahl caught is a ratfish while its Latin name Chimaeras Monstrosa Linnaeus is derived from a Greek mythical monster with the head of a lion and tail of a dragon, The Sun detailed in its report. Ratfish live in deep waters and are harmless to humans.

The fish, however, did not survive owing to the sudden change in pressure following which Oscar took it home and cooked it. “Despite its ugly appearance, it was really tasty. It is a bit like cod but tastier,” Oscar Lundahl added.
