Maruti Suzuki to bounce back with S-Presso

Having registered a decline in sales for seven of last nine months, Maruti SuzukiNSE 0.97 %, the country’s largest car maker is hoping for a bounce back with an all new crossover small car S-Presso lined up for the launch in the mass market this festive season.

With an expectation of populist budget, a new small car aimed at sub Rs-5 lakh will not only prove critical for Maruti Suzuki but the overall market, which has been finding new lows.

Based on the Future S concept showcased by the company at the Auto Expo of 2018, the S-Presso is first small car led by the Indian R&D unit, with design and engineering based out of Rohtak, Haryana with support from Suzuki Motor, Japan. This is second major product led out of India post Vitara Brezza, which will help the Indian operation save on the royalty payment.

To be sold through Arena outlets, the S-Presso is the first all new small car aimed at the mass market by Maruti Suzuki in the last seven years. The S-Presso comes with a bold cross-over SUV design with high ground clearance for the entry-level segment and it will challenge the Renault Kwid with its cross over small car avatar.
