The Government has formulated a comprehensive housing scheme with World Bank aid to transform slums in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts under a project named as Tamil Nadu Housing and Habitat Development Project. Assistance for a similar project in areas other than Chennai Metropolitan Area as been sought from the Asian Development Bank. The common building rules will also be notified shortly to enhance the ease of doing business in the housing sector.Further the decision of the government to raise the Floor Space Index (FSI) will to a long way to make housing more affordable.
CM to launch
Tender process has already commenced for the comprehensive Rs.1652 crore Athikadavu-Avinashi Scheme . It will benefit 24,468 acres of land besides rechaarging water and augmenting water supply in Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur districts by channelising surplus water of Bhavani river to 74 tanks.
