Nagapattinam, Dec 26:
Family members and relatives of those who died in the Tsunami that stuck the Coastal villages of Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Kanyakumari Districts on December 26, 2004, paid their homage to the departed souls by organising silent procession and also throwing threwing of flower petals and pouring of milk into the sea.
The residents of the fishing hamlets– Akkaraipetti and Keechankuppam took out a silent procession, as was observed during the last year and paid floral tributes by throwing flower petals into the sea with tears welling up from their eyes.
The fishermen in Kodiayakarai and Kollidam organised special prayers praying the souls to rest in peace, sources said.
This is the 14th year that the Tsunami Day has been observed throughout the state. The victims’ family members and friends paid their floral tributes by placing wreaths on to the memorials that were specially erected in various places to pay homage.
Some of those visited the burial grounds where the victims were buried were paid homage.
Fisheries Minister D.Jayakumar and AIADMK party presidium E.Madhusoodhanan participated at the homage at Chennai Marina. Fishermen and general public also joined the homage which was organised in Santhome and Besant Nagar beach. People who visited to the memorial of the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Arignar Anna also participated in the homage.
