The Medical Council of India has increased 100 medical seats more, from its earlier allotted seats of 150 to the Government Rajaji Medical College Hospital, here, because of the availability of proper structural and medical facilities, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr C.Vijayabaskar while inaugurating the second-day conference on Bone and Joints Replacement systems, organised at the Madurai Velammal Medical College Hospital, recently.

More than 300 delegates, all medical specialists, from India and also from countries like the UK, Australia attended the conference.

The Minister said that the TN Government had been taking all preliminary steps to construct the AIIMS speciality hospital in Thoppur at a total cost of Rs 534 crore.

The Minister also said that all the government hospitals in the State are having enough stock of medicines and the choice for choosing taking treatment in all government hospitals was left with the patients and added that the main aim of the government was giving free treatment to poor people.
