The Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. series struck a chord with the audiences, irrespective of their age group, right when the first instalment hit the screens back in 2003. It was an emotional journey for actor Sanjay Dutt for he shared the screen space with his father Late Sunil Dutt, and somehow, his portrayal of a troublesome child resonated with his real life.
“It is much later in life that he (Sunil Dutt) started expressing himself more. The hug that he gave me at the end in ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ was so real that both of us were crying. Towards the last phase of his life, my dad started expressing his love for me, and he was proud of the way I handled myself. For any father, it is a good feeling to see things turn around — from people saying that ‘Sanju Sunil Dutt ji ka beta hain’, to them saying ‘Sunil Dutt ji Sanjay Dutt ke pitaji hain’,” Sanjay said.
The second instalment ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ hit the screens in 2006, and won the hearts of audiences all over again. His larger than life persona, eccentric characterisation, and refreshing outlook towards everything, made Sanjay the most sought-after personalities in Bollywood. And now, Sanjay confirmed that filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is currently in the scripting stage of the series’ third part. During a recent media interaction, Sanjay mentioned that the script will be finalised soon and is expected to go on floors by the end of next year. Earlier, Arshad Warsi had also revealed the same, but he stated that shooting will begin “either mid or the end of the year”.
