Over 20 lakh applications have been received so far by the Election Commission either for inclusion or exclusion from the voters list in the State. The new electoral rolls will be released on January 4. More time has been given for seeking changes by the Commission but those received will not find place in the released list after scrutiny, the Commission has stated.
In Augusts the commission released a draft electoral roll for 2019 calling for changes from the electorate. thereafter the electoral changes work were conducted in September and October.
Special camps were also held for be convenience of voters in several places and on this occasion those who were completing 18 years of age on January 1 also filed their applications for inclusion in the list. The work was completed by October end.
The chief electoral officer yesterday released the changed sought in the electoral rolls sought in person and online in various parts of the State from September 1 to 31st October 31. As on date 2007412 persons have filed their applications including 1,2 lakhs through online.
In Tiruvallur 74984, in Chennai district 92863 and in Kanchipuram 84286 have filled their papers. Chennai had the highest number of applicants and Nilgiris had the lowest with 8631 applications.
Soon poll officials will undertake a door- to- door verification.
