The district is slowly limping back to normalcy and the swift rehabilitation work being undertaken for the past two days is giving confidence to the storm battered people, Health Minister Vijayabaskar who reviewed the progress of work. He said 70 % of power supply will restored in the township today itself and in a day or two in the villages in the district. He appealed to victims not to believe false propaganda by vested interests and make it difficult for officials to go about their rehabilitation work speedily. He said the Union Health Minister had spoken and assured all help to the victims.
The speedy restoration work has also expeditiously enabled supply of Cauvery water in Sandhaipettai and nearby areas and people are happy, he told newsmen.
Due fall of lakhs or trees road accessibility was a big problem but now the clearance work undertaken will bring accessibility to all areas very soon, he said.
As the havoc to the farm lands is heavy it will take at least two weeks to complete the assessment and submit the report by the officials but all affected can be fully assured of adequate compensation, he said.
Enumeration of damaged houses is also on, he added.
