Chinnalapatti, Sept 27:
The Kudakanaru Tank Irrigation Farmers Protection Association ( Kudaganaru Kulangal Paasana Vivasayeegal Paadhukappu Sangam) to protect the water resources and the deteriorating palm-trees planted more than 5000 palm-tree seeds near the Ponnimanthurai Thamaraikulam in Reddiyarchathiram Union.
According to the association, the planting of the seeds would strengthen the bunds of the tank and also would save the water resources. The association also said that the District Administration had already done desilting of all tanks in the area. The seeds were planted by hundreds of persons belonging to Ponnimanthurai Village Panchayats and were engaged under the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Development Employment Guarantee Plan of the government.
The seeds were planted at a gap of 2-meter for every seed that was planted.
District Planning Director Kavitha presided over the planting of seeds function. Deputy Director of Panchayats Gangadharani (auditing), BDOs Subramani and Vasantha were present.
The farmers protection association members welcomed the gatherings.
