Rains lash Mumbai, landslide in Malad: one electrocuted

Mumbai, Aug 4:

Heavy overnight rain caused a landslide on the Western Express Highway in suburban Kandivali early today, affecting vehicular movement from the western suburbs towards south Mumbai, officials said.

A huge landslide of a hillock along the Western Express Highway at Malad blocked south-bound road traffic.

Mumbai and its neighbouring areas have been receiving heavy showers since Monday night.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains are likely to continue for next two days.

An unidentified person was electrocuted following heavy overnight rainfall in Thane on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at Owala in Ghodbunder Road, Thane, on Tuesday morning and the man died on the spot.

Thane has recorded 10.41 millimetres (mm) of overnight rainfall.
