Tamil Nadu ranks first, among all States, in terms of the number of factories and industrial workers, Deputy Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam said while addressing the conference of the Chennai Roundtable’s ‘Innovative and Alternative Finance for Business and Infrastructure Development in India’ It will be a cakewalk for investors to do business with ease in Tamil Nadu, Pannerselvam stressesd.
Panneerselvam was inaugurating the WIEF-UEF Chennai Roundtable 2018 conference. Industries Minister M.C. Sampath, delivered the keynote address.
Panneerselvam said, “Tamil Nadu, is a leading manufacturing State, in India, with several well established businesses, and an educated and skilled workforce.
Tamil Nadu is the land of opportunity. Over the last twenty-five years, it has grown and developed, to become the second largest State economy, in India. Today, Tamil Nadu is an economic power house in India.
The dynamic leadership, and far-sighted vision of the, late Jayalalithaa made Tamil Nadu, the second largest State economy, in India, with an eco-system, congenial for the growth of industries.

Tamil Nadu is known for its strong governance. For the second year in a row, in the Public Affairs Index – 2017, Tamil Nadu has maintained its position, as the State, with the best governance, in the country.
As a Government is following in the foot-steps of Jayalalithaa, we do not believe in resting on our laurels. The Government has notified, the Business Facilitation Act, for further improving, the ease of doing business. Statutory time limits have been fixed, for approvals, with a provision, for deemed approvals after the lapse of the fixed time. State and District level single window committees, have been constituted, with statutory powers.Tamil Nadu is a leader, in a range of manufacturing industries-automobiles & components, castings & forgings, pumps & motors,
garments & textile products, leather products, chemicals and plastics.
The State is emerging, as a key manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, bio-technology products and chemicals.
Tamil Nadu has over 7000 MW of renewable energy capacity, by far, the highest in India. The State has, the 5th largest wind power installed capacity, in the world. Jayalalithaa, ensured that, a power deficit State, in 2010-11, is now a power surplus State.
Given the high quality human resources in the State, Jayalalithaa’s vision was, to make Tamil Nadu, India’s innovation hub, and knowledge capital. More investments, in value added service industries, research and development, financial technology, will help in achieving this goal.
I am very happy, to learn that, U.E.F and W.I.E.F, are working very closely together, on attracting more investments, into Tamil Nadu. It is commendable, that they have set a target, of attracting, 1 per cent of all Sovereign Wealth Fund Investments, into Tamil Nadu. This would amount to, 33 billion US dollars. Such investment, will immensely benefit the State and society, at large, Panneerselvam said.
Deputy Chief Minister assured that if any State, is ready to receive and ground investments, of such a large volume, it is Tamil Nadu. The State Government has already identified, over 200 Infrastructure projects, requiring investment of approximately 250 billion US dollars.
DCM said Tamil Nadu has institutional structures, that can receive investments, through Sovereign Wealth Funds, and Sharia compliant funds.The theme, of today’s summit, is fully aligned with the funds for investment, that Government of Tamil Nadu intends to raise, through Alternate Investment Funds, Panneerselvam said.
He assured that an investment in Tamil Nadu, is a very sound investment. It is an investment, in the hard working, enterprising, and reliable people, of Tamil Nadu. The human resources of Tamil Nadu, have been the key, to the growth story of the State.
