Arjun Reddy director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest interview in which he said that “If you don’t have the liberty to slap each other, then I don’t see any love there,” has not gone down well with many. The director also defended the Shahid Kapoor’s behavior in Kabir Singh, the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy. Samantha Akkineni, who reacted strongly to the comment, called it an expression of toxic masculinity.
But, supporters of Vanga and others shared a screenshot of Samantha’s comment on Arjun Reddy when the film hit screens two years ago. She had then said that Arjun Reddy is the most original film she had watched in a long time. “The golden days of TFI are upon us. Team #ArjunReddy OUTSTANDING!!”.(sic) Twitterati accused Sam of double standards.
Sam then hit back saying, “Liking the film .. and disagreeing with a comment are two different things. I loved the story of one ‘Arjun Reddy’ .. not the generalization that love means having the liberty of slapping people around.”
