The team of Sandakari has just wrapped up shoot of the film, but director Madhesh says it was not without their share of adventure. The cast and crew, including Vemal and Shriya Saran, was filming in Kochi till a day before heavy rainfalls hit the area and the set they had erected for the shoot got flooded.
“It was a bad situation in Kerala, but I think we got lucky,” the filmmaker begins, “We were shooting for a major portion in an island-kind of place about 20km away from Kochi. We had erected a set of a house on the banks of a water body; it took us over a month to do the set work. We shot for about 15 days from July end, and had planned to return for patch work if need arises. But hardly a day after we packed up that schedule, heavy rains hit Kerala and a flood-like situation emerged. We were on our way to Pollachi via Palakkad. When I reached out to the coordinators in Kochi, they told us that water had entered the set and it almost got washed away in the flood. It was nothing short of a miracle that we managed to leave the place as planned.”
The film is a remake of the Malayalam movie My Boss, which, in turn, was based on the Hollywood film The Proposal. “Many people told me that Vemal and Shriya make for an unusual pairing, but that’s the strength of the script because both of them fit their roles very well. We shot in Europe, especially in London, and then, in Kochi. We’re done with filming and the dubbing work is on now,” he signs off.
