Chief Minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami on Monday much to the relief of storm victims ordered the release of Rs. 1,000 crore towards relief operations in cyclone Gaja-affected areas that covers aid package to all victims, after a detailed meeting with Ministers and officials from various departments at the Secretariat.
Palaniswami announced compensation for all losses suffered by the people. “In view of the heavy losses , the State government would press the Centre to release necessary funds from the National Disaster Relief Fund immediately,” the Chief Minister said in a 10-page statement.
Those living in camps, those who lost their homes and fishermen who lost their fishing equipment are to be granted Rs. 5,000 a family, and additionally, Rs. 3,800 is to be granted for new clothes, vessels and other supplies.

While Rs. 5 crore each would be given to Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts, Rs. 2.5 crore would be provided to Dindigul district. Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Karur, Tiruchi and Theni district administrations would get Rs. 1 crore each.
As per official estimates, 270 cattle and 1,181 goats died in the disaster. About 88,102 hectares of agricultural and horticultural crops were affected and over 4,800 fishing boats damaged, as per the initial estimates.
