Trinity’s Navadhisa opens with Urmila’s splendid recital

Life time achievement award to Pandit Birju Maharaj

After the grand opening of the Trinity Arts Festival, the first day saw the splendid dance preformance of Urmila Sathyanarayanan.
The second day started off with the inauguration of the extensive seminar on Barathanatyam, Navadhisa. Ragini Chandrasekaran gave the inaugural speech and concluded with splendid dance movements bringing to life the pangs of Rama when Sita was abducted.
Chirstoper Gurusamy shared his experience about how he being a foreigner to India developed interest towards Barathanatyam which proved to be an inspiration for the spectators.
The lifetime achievement award was presented to the Kathak Legend Pandit Birju Maharaj, renowned exponent of the Handia (Rikhipur), Allahabad Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak dance in India.The award was presentd by The legendary Bharatanatyam artist and choreographer Alarmelvalli. She is internationally acclaimed for her ability to turn a traditional grammar into a subtle, deeply internalized, personal dance poetry.
