Though the Swarga Vasal ( gates to heaven) at the Srirangam Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple is to take place January 6, next year, devotees in lakhs from different parts of the country, began to assemble at the temple since the first-day of the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival which began two days ago.
The temple is now organising Pagal Pathu festival which coincides with the festival of Vaikunta Ekadasi. On all the 10 days of the Pagal Pathu, the presiding deity along with His consort and Nammalwar and Ramanujar will be taken on procession around the temple from the outer prakaram. The Devotees who will have darshan when the deities were taken outside the temple, will simultaneously will enter the temple to have darshan of Lord Ranganatha and His consorts at the respective sanctum sanctorium.
According sources, the temple is visited by not less than 25,000 devotees every day, due to the devotees visiting Sabaraimalai Hills while on their onward journey or return journey from the Ayyappa temple would never visit the temple. The devotees who visit Melmaruvathur Bangaru Adigalar’s Adi Parasakthi Peedam would also make visit all the temples in Tiruchi and Madurai, hence, there had been heavy rush in the Srirangam temple, which takes at least three hours for the devotees to have darshan, said the sources.
The temple sources also said that more than five lakhs of devotees from various places would visit the temple on the actual Vaikunta Ekadasi Day.
The temple has made special arrangements for the visiting devotees by providing basic infrastructure like drinking water facilities, bathrooms and toilets, etc.,, the sources further disclosed.
