VGN Chief flags off 3 km run to educate public on plastic ban

Chennai, Aug 26:
With the state-wide ban on plastic items coming into effect, V.N. Devadoss, Chairman, VGN Group and V.Pratish Devadoss flagged off the awareness run to educate the public on plastic ban at the Besant Nagar beach, Chennai today.
Group CFO G.V. Ramana, hundreds of youth, students, staff of VGN group participated in the 3 km run. Lot of people came to the venue early morning for registering to participate in the run.
Speaking at the event, V.Pratish Devadoss said, “
The governement order of banning use of plastic items, including non-biodegradable bags, from January 2019 in the interest of the environment and to “gift a plastic-free” state to future generations.
Non-biodegradable plastic products, mainly polythene covers affect the environment, impeding water flow.
Its burning also causes problems, he said, adding that plastic products contributed to various forms of pollution, air, land and water. It is evident that it takes years to completely destroy a piece of plastic. We see tanks, roads and dustbins choked with plastic causing problems for our future generations.
If we create more awareness of the concept of source segregation and provide alternatives to plastic bags, straws and plates (single use plastic), we can do our part in saving the earth.”
