Castle of Bled
Perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Bled, the medieval Bled Castle is the oldest castle in Slovenia. The views are spectacular from its high vantage point. The castle also provides the Slovenian history through the exhibits in the castle. This iconic Bled castle sits amids the emerald green waters surrounded by lush forest which makes it one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
The floating city of Bled has its beauty from the church along with the blended greens of water and trees in the middle of the city which makes it a floating island. The church has been a popular pilgrimage site for centuries now, having been erected at the end of the 17th century. There are two different ways to get to the church either on the traditional pletna boats that is gondola boats or on a private paddleboat.
One of the most satisfying place in Bled is Vintgar Gorge. The highlight is a 1600m wooden walkway through the gorge, built in 1893 and continually rebuilt since. It criss-crosses the swirling Radovna River four times over rapids, waterfalls and pools before reaching 16m-high Sum Waterfall. The entire walk is spectacular, although it can get wet and slippery.
Hike around the lush green hills
Lush green hills which rises above the shores of Lake Bled and the hiking trails are a great addition to walks around the Lake. The most popular hike is to Mala Osijnica, a view point which is located 645 metres above the Lake that provides a challenging 45 to 60 minute hike from the shores of Bled .This hike makes one to appreciate the iconic views of Bled Island and Bled Castle against the backdrop of the imposing Julian Alps.
Bled also has Straza a hill overlooking Lake Bled with incredible views of the castle and the lake, also provides one of the best viewpoints around the Lake. It’s also a perfect spot for adrenaline junkies. In summer Straza it’s possible to toboggan on the slope with a gondola ride up to the top and then the slalom ride back down to earth while in winter Straza Bled turns into a ski slope.
