Chief Minister Edapadi Palansiwami today handed over Central Government Health Ministry’s ISO certificates to 13 government headquarters hospitals and cheques worth Rs.2.773 crores and Centre’s Kayakalpa award for cleanliness and hygiene in the form of a shield , citation and prize money of Rs. one crore cheque to joint directors of rural health in districts and deputy directors (hygiene).
A Central study team visited for three days government hospitals and primary helath centres (PHCs) recommended by the State government for appraisal last April-May period and chose seven of the following government heaequarters hospitals for the ISO award:Usilampatti (Madurai), Ponnagaram (Dharamapuri), Padmanabhapuram (Kanyakumari), Erode (Erode), Cuddalore (Cuddalore), Namakkal ) Namakkal, Ottacamund (Nilgiris). The six PHCs were: Palayampudur (Dharmapuri), Morappur (Dharmapuri), Sayalkudi (Ramnad), Vadalur (Cuddalore), Mugaiyur (Villupuram), Mecheri (Salem).
In respect of the Kayakalpa award a study team usually makes the appraisal in three stages and on satisfaction recommends award for two hospitals of Rs.50 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs, respectively to two government headquartes hospital and Rs.15 lakhs to the upgraded PHCs.
The hospitals that won the Kayakalpa award were: Cuddalore government hsopital and Manaparai government hsopital in Tiruchi. The upgraded PHCs were: Aruppukottai (Virudhunagar) and Mugaiyur (Villupuram).
Health Minister Vijaya Baskar, Principal Secretary (Health ) J.Radhakrishnan, Health Director Rose Ahamed, Tamila Nadu Medcial care directrUma Maheswari General health and preventive medicines director K.Kulandaiswami Rural Health director N.Rukmani and other higher officials were present on the occasion.
