DGP orders investigation wing in all police stations in TN

Chennai, Mar.27:

On the orders of the Police Commissioner DGP Rajendran a separate investigation wing is being formed in all police departments in Tamil Nadu to tighten up crime probes and help law and order wing to concentrate on their mounting regular security work and reduce backlog of criminal cases. This has been done in the wake of the Supreme Court recommendations.

The newly started investigation wing will henceforth look after all crime cases, investigate them and produce the culprits in courts and conduct their cases and get them punished if found guilty. The investigation team personnel cannot be drafted for secirity without permission at the highest level like the IG or Police Commissioner, the directive said. Even law and order cases should also be handled only by the investigation wing.

The new plan will also help more policemen to engage in patrolling and ensure greater security to citizens, a police official said. More policemen could also be recruited, he opined.
