Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Ayodhya after 29 years today for the “Bhoomi Pujan” or groundbreaking ceremony for Ram temple at the site that was disputed for decades until the Supreme Court handed over ownership to Hindus last year. PM Modi, clad in a gold kurta and white dhoti, arrived by chopper to the riverside town where offered prayers at various sites before laying a 40-kg silver brick to mark the symbolic start of a grand temple at the spot that many believe is the birthplace of Lord Ram.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of the Ram temple in Ayodhya , which marks end to the 135-year religious conflict in the country, amid vedic chanting and a massive security arrangement in the town spruced up for the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi first arrived at Amausi Airport in Lucknow from Delhi and then left for Ayodhya by helicopter. PM Modi reached the helipad of Saket College, Ramnagari. There he was welcomed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his caninet members.
The borders of Ayodhya, which nearly 130km from the state capital of Lucknow, have been sealed, thousands of security personnel have been deployed and 75 check posts have been put to block approach roads.Prime Minister himself who arrived in a helicopter was in a mask and avoided handshakes with the greeting chief minister Yogi and his caninet members who were standing in a line well apart from each other as prescribed for social distancing.
MS Subbulaksmi’s Nama Rama bhajan was played as Prime Minister Modi went around the majestic Hanuman Garhi temple in a pious manner with folded hand. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath accompamied him few steps behind with a masked face. The security men were stationed away from the visiting dignataries .
On reaching the historic 10th century Hanuman sannadi he offered prayers by showing Aarti to Hanuman and praying with closed eyes.
Then he walked all the way to the mandapam were Ram Lalla or the infant Lord Ram is housed. He prostrated in front of the deity and offered floral prayers and performed Aarti.
Then he planted a Parijat tree sapling to mark his historic visit on the auspicious historic occasion.
After 492 years, finally the auspicious moment has come. The historic moment of ending the 5-century-long wait for the construction of the grand Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya has come.
PM placed a total of 9 brics including 5 silver brics, identifying 5 constellations or Pancha Bhoothangal, main programme of bhoomi pooja amid the chanting of Vedic hymns.
He also unveiled a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone and also released a commemorative postage stamp on ‘Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir’.
Modi was there for at nearly three hours in the temple town, which has been decked with 150,000 lamps, many buildings given a fresh coat of paint and murals from the epic Ramayana have been painted on walls. There was also 5,100 urns decorated by local artists on the road that Modi travelled to reach the venue.
Authorities have put in place a strict protocol that included testing all guests, enforcing the wearing of masks and sealing the district borders so that people from outside cannot gather at the site.
