The nation wide death toll due to the novel coronavirus pandemic rose to 109 and the cases climbed to 4067 in the country on Monday after 505 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.A top health ministry official on Sunday said that the rate of doubling of coronavirus cases cases in India is at present 4.1 days but if the cases linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation would not have happened, it would have been 7.4 days. State governments have since then been tracing those who attended the event and the people they came in contact with.
. India is currently in the middle of the 21-day nationwide lockdown but the death toll in India has crossed the 100-mark. Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS says there has been localised community spread in certain pockets. He said, We are somewhere between stage 2 and stage 3.
The state wide lists says the affected in Maharashtra is 690, Tamil Nadu – 571,Delhi – 503, Telangana – 321, Rajasthan – 253, Uttar Pradesh – 227, Andhra Pradesh – 226.
The number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra rose to 781 with 33 people more people testing positive for the disease on Monday, a health official said.
Among the new cases, 19 were reported from Pune city, 11 from Mumbai and one each from Satara, Ahmednagar and Vasai (in Palghar district), said the official.
“The state health department on Monday received reports of 33 people testing positive for coronavirus. With this, the state tally increased to 781, he said. The state has so far reported 45 deaths due to the viral disease.
Meanwhile Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai has been declared a containment zone after some staff at the hospital tested positive for coronavirus.
One lakh test kits
“ICMR to get about seven lakh rapid antibody testing kits by April 8. These will help in conducting COVID-19 tests in hotspot areas where large no.of cases are being seen. ICMR will get delivery in a phased manner. It’s expected that they’ll get five lakh kits in first phase. Orders placed.”
Globally, the total coronavirus cases surged above 1.27 million while the death toll rose near 70,000, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. US with over 3 lakh cases was the worst affected country, followed by Spain with 1.31 lakh infections and Italy 1.28 lakh infections. In terms of death toll, Italy reported over 15,000 death, followed by Spain at over 12,000 and US with nearly 10,000 deaths.
Though there was some drop in new cases from Italy and Spain, Britain reported a record 24-hour jump in deaths that surpassed even hard-hit Italy’s.
