Chennai, Feb 11:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi K.Palaniswami today in the assembly under Rule 110 announced that a sum of Rs 2000 will be distributed as special financial assistance to more than 60 lakh families, who are living below the poverty line, and are suffering on account of the effect of the recent Gaja- cyclone and miserable failure of monsoon this year. He said that the TN Government had been allocating a total sum of Rs 1200 crore for the purpose in its supplementary Budget allotment.
The Chief Minister who in his speech at the budget discussion session began today, said, by taking into consideration of the living conditions of agricultural labourers, the workers engaged in the manufacture of crackers, fisher men, construction workers, launderers, the workers engaged in climbing of trees, salt manufacturing units, and also the workers in the manufacture of chappals, pottery making, and the men and women engaged in the manufacture of handicrafts, the TN Government had been announcing the special payment of Rs 2000 to around 60 lakh families, which include 35 lakhs families in villages and 25 lakh families living in suburban areas.
The Chief Minister who in his speech quoted from a Tamil Poem saying, “ Ellorum Ellamum Pera vendum.. Ingu Illamai Illadha Nilai Vendum’ that the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had always thought about the welfare of the people, particularly the people who lived below the poverty line and economically weaker section. He said that the present AIADMK government had been following the same path as shown by the late Chief Minister. He said that the motto of the Tamil Government was that the economic development benefit of the government should reach all people and said that the government had been implementing all welfare plans of the people.
