A large city by Finnish standards, with more than 200,000 inhabitants, Tampere has managed to keep the small town feel. The city centre is compact in size, and the atmosphere is friendly and casual.
The city is located on a scenic spot on a narrow isthmus between two great lakes, Nasi and Pyha. Tammerkoski the channel of rapids flow through the city centre, forming the backdrop for old industrial buildings, nowadays serving as idyllic restaurants, museums and even a cinema.

Pispala is a unique architectural area of well preserved small wooden houses resting on the slope of an ancient glacial ridge just 2.5 kilometres from the centre of Tampere. Once a low-cost living quarters for factory workers and artists, it is now a high-end residential area where many well-known Finnish artists and celebrities have lived.
Särkänniemi amusement park
Särkänniemi amusement park, situated just a hop and a skip away from the city centre by the northern lake Näsijärvi, caters to thrill seekers as well as families with kids. Smaller children enjoy the Angry Birds Park and the idyllic miniature town of Doghill, which is based on the lovable characters by author Mauri Kunnas.
