Chennai, Dec. 9:
Taking a major step for women safety and redressal of their needs legal or otherwise in the State, Chief Minister Edapadi K.Palaniswami is inaugurating a helpline ‘181’ at the Secretariat tomorrow.
The free helpline centre is proposed to be have five advocates, five counsellors and an IT engineer in the Amma Call center in Ambattur. All kinds of assistance will be provided.
Calls in respect of molestations, sexual harassments, child abuse ,dowry harassments, information on old age pension for women and education scholarships for girls etc.,will be attended by the centre.
The call complaints should be registered and analysed by the helpline cell. After some days the helpline cell will be asked by government officials on the action taken on them, the Social Welfare Department has ordered.
Briefing newsmen a department official said information about all police stations in the State and their phone numbers have been linked with this helpline. If a woman phones up to 181 from a particular area this cell for woman will immediately pass on information to the respective police station.If counselling or legal help was required it will be done and in case of need for rescue it will also be done and arrangements will be made for their shelter. In case of medical help the nearest hospital of the caller will be contacted and advised to give the needed assistance.
So also information on what were the government welfare schemes and quantum of aid available fro woman of all ages and whom to approach and how apply for the same will be provided.
Sometimeback Gujarat and Delhi introduced this scheme which was found to be successful.
