Gem Hospital, India’s premier Gastroenterology and laparoscopic speciality hospital based in Coimbatore spread its wings to Chennai with Vice President Venkaiah Naidu declaring it open at MGR Road, Perungudi, in the presence of Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.
Municipal Administration S. P. Velumani, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar, Health Minister Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar graced the Occasion with their presence.
Inaugurating the hospital, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, “Tamil Nadu has the leading health indicators, amongst all States, in India.
Chief Minister said, Tamil Nadu tops the nation in providing best child and maternity care. The government is committed to reducing the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Tamil Nadu medical service, TN AIDS association, Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu are providing best health care. Tamil Nadu is the pioneer state in implementing various health care schemes such as Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme, CM’s Comprehensive Health Insurance scheme, Young woman’s health scheme, Amma baby care kits, Amma Medical shop.
The government has bagged awards for organ transplantation from Central government.
The government has been taking up a number of initiatives including the opening of new primary health centres (PHC), linear oscillators, MRI scan and CT Scan machines and installation of similar medical facilities. Tamil Nadu healthcare industry, is not only known for rendering service and care, but it is also the best in terms of infrastructure and human resource as well. In seven years the government has established 254 new primary health centres at a cost of Rs. 221.30 crores.
Apart from this, the government has established primary health centres with 30 bed and scan facility at the cost of Rs. 190.37 crores.
With our continuous effort, AIMS hospital to established at the cost of Rs. 500 cr in Thoppur in Madurai. The government is taking action, to open medical colleges in Karur and Virudhunagar, Chief Minister said.
Speaking at the meeting Deputy Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam said, “Tamil Nadu has the leading health indicators, amongst all States, in India. We will continue, to invest and tackle the challenges, which arise in provision of quality health care. Government of Tamil Nadu’s investment, in medical education, under the guidance of Jayalalithaa, has ensured that, we have high quality doctors and medical professionals. They, in turn, have established excellent medical facilities, including institutions like GEM hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa, through the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance scheme, made the high quality tertiary medical facilities, in the private sector, accessible to even the poorest. Tamil Nadu’s successful health insurance scheme, was a model, for the Aayushmaan Bharat Health Insurance scheme, of the Government of India.”
Dr. C.
