Vested interests and vandals were purposely engaged in false propaganda to defame the government and to hamper the good and speedy storm rehabilitation work being undertaken but they will not succeed, Disaster Relief Minister Udayakumar told newsmen at the storm relief control room today. He said he inspected the havoc caused by Gaja and the relief work undertaken on a war footing not only in townships but also in interior villages where the devastation was heavy. To further speed up the work 11 more ministers on the orders of the Chief Minister have rushed to places allotted to them and were engaged in co-ordinating the work machinery.
Lakhs and lakhs of trees have fallen and houses damaged or destroyed. and defame the government some people were engaged in mudslinging and creating hurdles. People desisted from playing into the hands of such anti-socials and help the officials in expediting their work which will be of great benefit to them.
He pointed 85000 lamp posts have been uprooted. lakhs of tress have fallen and hundreds of transformers have been damaged and to restore them hundreds of staff from neighbouring districts have been drafted.

Sheltered victims were being given food three times a day, water and medical care was also being given. Therefore more people were coming to the rehabilitation camps, he added.
