BRS MLC Kavitha arrested in Delhi liquor scam case

Hyderabad, Mar 16:

BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday evening in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case.

After a five-hour-long search operation, the ED issued an arrest notice to Kavitha at 17:20 hours and subsequently took her into custody, sources confirmed.

Kavitha is expected to be transported to Delhi by a special flight and presented before a Magistrate in New Delhi .

Several local and Central forces were mobilised at Kavitha’s house and en route to Shamshabad Airport.

Several BRS leaders, including BRS working president K T Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao, rushed to Kavitha’s house to question the basis of her arrest by the ED. They raised slogans against the ED and the Centre, leading to a tense situation at Kavitha’s residence.

BRS Legal Cell General Secretary Soma Bharat raised objections, questioning the legality of Kavitha’s arrest, especially when a case is pending in the Supreme Court. He affirmed the intention to pursue legal action in this matter.

KTR, expressing outrage, interrogated the investigating officer about the arrest without a transit warrant. He emphasised the breach of commitment to the Supreme Court and warned of legal consequences for officials reneging on their word.

He condemned the ED officials for restricting access to the house even after the conclusion of the search.
