Finance Minister to present TN Budget 2024-25 tomorrow, new announcements likely

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu will present the Tamil Nadu government’s budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the Assembly tomorrow.

The first session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly began on the 12th with a speech by Governor RN Ravi. While reading only the first paragraph of the speech prepared by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the additional readings were deleted from the notes. The resolution was passed so that only the Tamil and English texts prepared by the Tamil Nadu government would be included in the notes.

The Assembly will meet again tomorrow at 10 am. Then, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu will present the budget of the Tamil Nadu government for the year 2024-25. He is expected to read the budget speech for about 1½ hours. This is the first budget presented by Minister Thennarasu.

Announcements will be made about the expected tax revenues, non-tax revenues, debt status of Tamil Nadu, revenue shortfall and fiscal deficit in the coming financial year.

With parliamentary elections just a few months away, the budget before that is always a bit special. In this way, new announcements can be expected in this budget.

Minister MRK Panneerselvam will present the agriculture financial report on the 20th. After that, the discussion at the Assembly on this budget will begin. Discussion will be held on 21st morning and evening. Both the ministers will respond to the MLAs’ debate on the 22nd. Subsequently, the appropriation bill will be tabled and passed.
