The IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has brought in a handy tool which lets
you peek into train coaches and see if there are any vacant berths available, even at the eleventh hour.
Spot the Secret Door: Head over to the IRCTC website. Right above the “Book Ticket” section, you’ll see
a slightly inconspicuous option called “Charts/Vacancy.” Don’t miss it – it’s your key to vacant seat
paradise!
Fill in the Blanks: Clicking on “Charts/Vacancy” will open a new page named “Reservation Chart.” This is
where the magic happens. Enter the name or number of your desired train in the first box. In the next
box, specify the station where you plan to board.
Let the Genie Work its Magic: Once you’ve filled in the details, hit the “Get Train Chart Now” button. And
voila! The reservation chart appears, revealing the availability of vacant seats across different classes
and coaches.
Launch the IRCTC App: Open the IRCTC app on your smartphone. It’s available on both Android and
iOS devices.
Train Time!: Look for the train icon within the app and tap on it.
Vacancy Voyage: On the next screen, you’ll find the “Chart Vacancy” button. Tap on it to begin your
vacant seat quest.
Intel Gathering: Enter the train name/number and your boarding station. Unlike the website, the app
retrieves the current date automatically. 5. Voila! Seats Up for Grabs: Similar to the website, the app
displays the reservation chart, highlighting the vacant seats available.
