Former AP cricketer’s gesture to tennis rising star

Hyderabad, Apr 13:

Former Andhra Pradesh cricketer and IPL governing council member V Chamundeswarnath pledged Rs 10 lakhs sponsorship to India’s top tennis player Sumit Nagal during the FNCC Tennis Tournament in Hyderabad on Friday.

The sponsorship aims to assist Nagal in participating in upcoming tournaments. The star player revealed about financial struggles last year, stating he does not get financial support and guidance.

Sumit Nagal achieves a groundbreaking milestone two days ago by becoming the first Indian to win an ATP Masters 1000 match on clay courts at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters.

Sumit Nagal’s journey at the Monte Carlo Masters marks a watershed moment in Indian tennis history. Defying the odds, the unseeded Nagal secured a place in the tournament’s main draw, joining the ranks of only two other Indians to have achieved this feat before him—Vijay Amritraj in 1977 and Ramesh Krishnan in 1982.

Nagal’s breakthrough performance underscores the growing prominence of Indian tennis on the international stage. With this win, Nagal not only secured his third victory over a top-50 player but also demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level of professional tennis.
