Dhaka, Jan 10:

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Awami League (AL) party, which clinched a landslide victory in general elections, will form its new cabinet on January 11, a senior official told Xinhua on Tuesday.

He said Hasina will take oath as the country’s Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive term on Thursday.

“President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the prime minister and her cabinet colleagues at a ceremony at 7:00 p.m. (local time) on Jan. 11,” said the official who asked not to be named.

The official said the ceremony will be held in the historic Durbar Hall of the Bangabhaban, the presidential palace of Bangladesh, in the capital Dhaka.

K.M. Abdus Salam, senior secretary of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, said earlier in the day that newly elected members of Bangladesh’s parliament will take the oath of office on Wednesday.

He said that Bangladesh’s Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will administer the oath of office to the lawmakers at a ceremony on Wednesday.

According to gazette notification published by the Election Commission on Tuesday afternoon, the AL party led by Hasina won 222 out of 298 seats. The AL-led alliance bagged a landslide win with 225 seats.
