In first, Chennai to host IPL final on May 26

Chennai, Mar 26:

The M.A.Chidambaram stadium in Chennai will host the final of the IPL 2024 on May 26. The city will be hosting a final for the first time in 12 years after the earlier summit clashes in 2011 and 2012.

Chennai, the home venue for five-time winners and reigning champions Chennai Super Kings, will also host the second qualifier on May 24.

Ahmedabad will host the first qualifier on May 21 and the eliminator on May 22, according to the second phase of the IPL schedule, comprising 52 matches including the playoffs, released by the IPL organisers on Monday evening.

The second phase of the IPL league matches will begin on April 8, with CSK hosting Kolkata Knight Riders at home.

The IPL had earlier announced the first phase schedule from Mar 22 to April 7. It did not announce the full schedule earlier in view of the Lok Sabha polls

This schedule was circulated here by Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. According to the schedule on February 22, 2024, the BCCI had announced the schedule for the first two weeks (21 matches), and the remainder of the schedule has been drawn up, factoring in the polling dates and venues for theupcoming Lok Sabha Elections across the country.

In the second phase, Delhi Capitals will play all their remaining five home matches in front of their enthusiastic home crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi after opting to play their first two home matches in Visakhapatnam.

Punjab Kings, who commenced their season at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, will culminate their home campaign in HPCA Stadium at Dharamsala.

The scenic stadium offering breathtaking views will be the home to PBKS, hosting two matches on May 5 and 9 against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively.

Rajasthan Royals too have opted for a second venue in Guwahati and will play their final two home matches in Assam. They will first host Punjab Kingson May 15th and later play Kolkata Knight Riders on May 19th, which will also mark the conclusion of the league stage of the 17th season of IPL.

After a break on May 2h, the spotlight will shift to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium as the world’s biggest cricket stadium hosts an electrifying Qualifier 1 clash featuring two top-ranked sides on Tuesday, May 21, followed by the exciting Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22nd.

Similarly to the season opener, the Qualifier 2 and the grand final will take place in Chennai, the home turf of reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.

Qualifier 2, to be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, will take place on Friday, May 24, followed by the summit clash on Sunday, May 26.
