Indian dairy doing better than global standards, hails PM

Modi address Golden Jubilee of GCMMF

Ahmedabad, Feb 23:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the Indian dairy sector is growing by 6 per cent per year as compared to the global average of 2 percent.

Participating in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera here, the Prime Minister said in the last 10 years, milk production has increased almost 60 per cent and per capita milk availability has increased by about 40 percent.

“GCMMF is a testimony to the resilience of cooperatives and the strong determination of farmers, which has made Amul one of the strongest dairy brands in the world,” he said.

“Amul has become the symbol of the strength of the Pashupalaks of India, “the Prime Minister said. “Amul means trust, development, public participation, empowerment of farmers and technological advancements through time.”

Underscoring the importance of women in the dairy sector, PM Modi said the turnover of the dairy sector, helmed by women up to 70 per cent, is more than the turnover of wheat, rice and sugarcane combined.

“This Nari Shakti is the real backbone of the dairy sector. Today, when India is moving ahead with women-led development, the success of its dairy sector is a hugeinspiration,” he said.

Later in the day, Modi laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs. 13,500 crore in Tarabh, Mahesana, Gujarat.

The projects encompass a wide range of sectors such as internet connectivity, rail, road, education, health, connectivity, research, and tourism.

Referring to the inauguration and foundation stone laying of the 8 projects related to water supply and water sources today worth more than Rs. 1500 crore, the Prime Minister said that it will further help in solving the water problems of North Gujarat.

He also lauded the farmers of North Gujarat for adopting modern technology like drip irrigation and the emerging trends of chemical-free natural farming.

“Your efforts will increase the enthusiasm of farmers across the country, “he added.

Modi also dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs. 47,000 crore in Navsari, Gujarat.

The projects encompass a wide range of sectors such as power generation, rail, road, textiles, education, water supply, connectivity, and urban development.

He also initiated work commencement for the construction of the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Navsari.

Two new pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs) at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS), Unit 3 and Unit 4, were also dedicated to the nation and built at a cost of more than Rs 22,500 crore.
